So, they are currently working on a Broadway show for New York . This is based off a little known animated movie called Shrek. The word on the street (doesn't that sound all detective-ey) is they have the 2 acts down and have some very interesting numbers, with some incredible sets. Apparently the chandelier shot for this play is with the dragon and the stained glass at the end. The singers are supposed to be excellent, however, there is some debate over whether or not you can really turn this into a Tony-winning musical. They've done it before with a few Disney classics, but can the humor of Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy be put on stage? Can the beauty of Dreamworks translate to a stage? Can you really give a guy in a big green fat-suite personality? And, if so, would you see it?
Personally, until recently I've never really taken notice of movie-turned musicals/plays, but after seeing Lion King, which was incredible by the way, I seem to be interested; and Shrek is one of my favorite animated movies ever, but I don't know the two could combine into a fun play. So, if this play takes off, or if you happen to travel to New York, would you see Shrek?
