Universal Pictures has announced they are bringing the classic Herman Melville novel Moby Dick to the big screen. The problem is the director, Timur Bekmambetov known for a few Olsen Twins movies wants to adapt the story to make it a more action friendly story, with Captain Ahab being the more tough leader, than the brooding obsessive guy. They also mentioned they want a 300 feel to the movie.
Ok, so, your going to take a tale that is known throughout the world and has been appreciated since it came out in 1851 and you are going to 'improve on it?' I can understand taking some 'creative liberties,' but this seems just silly to me. The main part of the book is the mental aspect, not the action. Besides, if Universal wanted that, why not get Michael Bay? Ahh, no way for Whales to explode, huh?
So, what do you think? You think it could end up being a good popcorn flick, or a nightmare the Scifi channel won't touch?
