Majel Barrett Roddenberry, the widow of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry died at the age of 76, of Leukemia. She was best known for her roles in all Star Trek incarnations. She was nurse Chapel in the original series, the voice of the computer in all of Star Trek, and she also played Lwaxana Troi, the ships counselors mother in the Next Generation series. She is survived by her son, Eugene.
Her work in the franchise, along with her relationship with its creator earned her the nickname "the first lady of Star Trek." She reportedly just finished her voice work for J.J. Abrams new Star Trek movie due out in May, so the legacy will remain intact for now.
The collective souls of trekkies everywhere will shed a small tear for such an influential person.
