Warner Brothers has announced they are putting all projects in regard to DC Comics on hold, until they can figure out a game plan. Basically, they are tired of screwing things up, and getting all the way to pre-production before realizing the project would be a train wreck, and losing millions of dollars. This is a good sign, as they realized the Justice League movie would be terrible, and would ruin all franchises from that point on. The idea was to skip the Superman Returns movie and a third Batman movie and just have the characters appear together. Unfortunately, the directors and stars of the movie franchises would not be included. Most likely, WB is planning on doing something similar to what Marvel is doing, have the characters star in their own movie, that links with other characters, eventually to all come together in one, big blockbuster known as the Avengers. Obviously, it's a good idea, but a very large undertaking. The risk here, is messing up with the brilliant universe Chris Nolan has created, and they don't want to mess with such a huge financial cash cow as the Batman franchise.
We'll see if they can plan something good, but at this point, they need to step back and see what they have. I think they'll find out, besides Batman, they have a flailing Superman series with no direction and that's about it.
