Golden Globes 2011 Predictions

The Golden Globes don't hold much weight, and most consider them a dress rehearsal for the Oscars, but I actually like the Globes better. While the grandness isn't as big, it's generally less stuffy and more entertaining. And with Ricky Gervais hosting, it should make things entertainingly uncomfortable.

2010 Golden Globe nominations

Check out the Golden Globe nominations for this year. There are a few surprises in there; some pleasant, some not so much. Some Inception love is a good thing, and there is quite a bit of hype for The Fighter and Black Swan, the latter of which was no surprise. But Burlesque and The Tourist love? That's more than a surprise. Both movies tanked horribly, and have extremely low ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, leaving me wondering why they are there. And, congratulations to Emma Stone for her nomination in Easy A. Clearly, there are some good things in store for her.

The winners will be announced January 16th, with the ceremony being hosted once again by Ricky Gervais.

Golden Globes: The Breakdown

Sunday brought us the 67th annual Golden Globe awards, and promised us an unleashed Ricky Gervais as host, along with some amazing surprises. For once, NBC delivered on their promise.

Host Gervais was brash and harsh and completely hilarious as expected and poked fun at Steve Carrell, script writers in general, Colin Farrell, Sir Paul McCartney and Mel Gibson, amongst others. While the shows pace was painfully slow, the bits with Gervais more than made up for that.

Oh, and did I mention the surprised in the awards section? The big talk of the awards was Fox breakout hit Glee winning an award and Avatar winning Best Motion Picture Drama and best director, James Cameron. The remaining awards are below.

With a win at the Globes, Avatar fans are already talking a victory at this years Academy Awards. With a sci-fi movie winning a Golden Globe, anything could happen.
